I thought I’d jot down a few thoughts on what I’d like to achieve over the course of the year. Although, honestly, though, I haven’t really thought much beyond the Frostgrave trip so I’m not sure the rest of this list is what my priorities will really be come March!
Frostgrave Immersion 101 in February!
I can’t believe it is almost upon me, I’m looking forward to getting over to Estonia and playing some Frostgrave. I fully expect to get more games of Frostgrave in over the course of the weeklong trip than I did in 2019 (five, for the record). It’s been a lot of preparation and anticipation leading up to the trip and I’m looking forward to getting there, enjoying my time overseas and rolling some dice.

Paint up pirates from North Star
So, I saw the new Captain Flint model in the Nov-19 issue of Wargames Illustrated, and Joe’s Ghost Archipelago scenario featuring him, and fell in love with the model. I went and ordered it from North Star and whilst there ended up picking up a few of the other beautiful pirate figures while I was there. I plan on painting these up just for fun, and may turn them into a warband for Ghost Archipelago, but that’s potentially in the future, and I think a project just for the fun of it is in order in the meantime.
Get Rangers of Shadow Deep to the table
This year I want to get Ranger of Shadow Deep to the table more. I played two missions during 2019 and enjoyed it immensely but ran out of steam for one reason or another. This year, the plan is to get a semi-permanent gaming space setup so that getting some of the solo play opportunities to the table is as easy as painting currently is. I have a lot of the models necessary or at least viable substitutes for the missions I’ve looked through, so it shouldn’t be hard to get this happening relatively quickly after the Forstgrave Tour.

Play through Hellboy boxed game
I briefly experimented with the tutorial game and found the experience a little unsatisfying, so never revisited it. I would like to play through the core box, though, as I love the mythos and the models included are great (and painted!), although I think after that’s done this may be headed to a new home.

Marvel Crisis Protocol
Long-time readers may recall my love for the short-lived Marvel Universe Miniatures game from Knight Models (the Firefly of miniature games as someone dubbed it). With a new Marvel miniatures game in production and released recently, of course I was on board, and have acquired the core game and the expansions re-leased to date. I’ve started painting a few of the models and had one game but am looking forward to further releases coming out to build interest among my regular group so I can get regular games in.

Paint Black Rose Wars box
I received the core box for Black Rose Wars, a game I back on Kickstarter and promptly forgot about due to significant production delays, however it’s got some great wizard and monster models in it, so I’m looking forward to getting them painted up and hopefully getting it to the table at some point during the year.
A Song of Ice and Fire TMG
I want to rebuild some momentum on this game, as it was my most played in 2019 but I have barely touched it for the last few months. I have a few models still to paint for my Starks which will hopefully get my excitement up again, and no doubt there’ll be a few players to get games in with.

Reality’s Edge
Honestly not sure if I’ll get deeper into this game or not. I have one model I want to get converted and painted as a second console cowboy, but the game is brain burning, so it’s unlikely to I’ll be able to play it in any significant amount. Anyway, time will tell.

Miscellaneous Monsters
I have a few large monster models to paint, no real plan to use them in a game per se, but they are rad and have been languishing for too long. I want to push myself to experiment and really get them looking great, so these will be slower burn projects that I’ll tackle as inspiration strikes me.

Conclusion
This is slightly bigger list than I was expecting it to be, but I guess I’ve always got more unpainted models waiting on my attention. I’m looking forward most to the Frostgrave trip in February, and expect I’ll have a whole lot to say about it when I get back, but I am unlikely to get any posts out until March because of it.
