Given the late post for the July hobby update, coupled with limited hobby time over August, I decided to combine the August and September posts to give a meatier update. I really knocked out a significant amount over this time in hindsight, including hitting the milestone of having all Lightbringer Kit models painted for Massive Darkness. Without further ado, here’s the break-down.
Paint All Massive Darkness Models
After having all the models primed and base coated in July I focussed on knocking out the last of the core Lightbringer pledge models. I now only have three expansions left to paint (Cockatrice, Lord Tusk and Troglodytes), although am considering picking up the missing packs to complete my collection.
For Chromatis I didn’t want to go for the card art colour scheme and so took a more nightmare steed approach to it. I think it looks better than the card art although I still think ‘friendship is magic’ every time I see it.
I tried to get a growing effect on the carvings in the giant stone the cyclops is about to throw.
And the final heroes now done as well:
Filling Out the Frostgrave Bestiaries
No progress again, although the Massive Darkness models completion provides some additional backfill for this goal. I haven’t managed to get any gaming done recently, although this and This is Not a Test are top of my list to play again. This goal will come back on the radar soon with the pending release of Rangers of Shadow Deep from the man himself, Joseph A. McCullough.
Shadespire Nightvault
I picked up Nightvault shortly after release (technically I think this was October, but hey…) and so have two more warbands to paint for the Warhammer Underworlds universe. These will also likely see usage as I build out my Age of Sigmar armies as well.
Age of Sigmar
I actually finished about half my Chainrasp models in late-September, but didn’t get a chance for a group photo so will save this and show the completed 20 as part of the October update. Meanwhile, here’s a shot of the test model, which is broadly based on the following painting tutorial. I’m probably going to paint all the Nighthaunt models in a similar fashion.
Also, all the Malign Sorcery endless spells have been completed now. Does anyone else get reminded of Dangerous Dave in the Haunted Mansion by the flaming skull? I could never get past those guys.
Conclusion
I’ve really had a smashing three quarters of hobby and probably more productive than many of my years. The drop off in gaming over August and September was disappointing but unavoidable, but hopefully I can get back into it over the next few months. It may end up a stretch to knock off the goals I set this year, but that’s mostly due to shifting priorities and a little bit of distraction by new and shiny things. I’ll have to factor this in to next years goals!
