Apologies for the incredibly late hobby progress update for July, a combination of travel and illness prevented me from getting this together sooner. That said, July was a super productive month, with piles of models completed.
Paint All Massive Darkness Models
During July I pulled all the remaining Lightbringer models out and got them all primed and base coated. For the month I threw down quick paint jobs on the troll, werewolf and werebear, getting them to a good enough tabletop standard.
Paint All DCU models
The saga continues as following my purchase of Green Lantern last month, after a subsequent game I decided that Raven would be a better fit for the team, so she was added to the collection and saw a quick paint job laid down.
I also bought and painted three ninja models (these are from Warlord Games, part of the Test of Honour game) which I’m intending to use as operatives of The Hand for some Marvel Miniatures play.
Filling Out the Frostgrave Bestiaries
Nothing this month towards this goal (unless you count the Massive Darkness painting…), and it’ll likely be stalled out as I smash through Massive Darkness and Age of Sigmar models (wait, what?!)
Shadespire
All the Shadewpire warbands have now been painted, with he dwarves, Farstriders and Magore’s Fiends added this month. This has been completed just in time for the Nighthaunt spoiler to be released which will no doubt lead to more warbands to purchase and paint…
Age of Sigmar
I took the plunge on the new Soul Wars box as I couldn’t resist the excellent Nighthaunt models therein, and got a pre-order deal from my FLGS, Mind Games Melbourne, which included Malign Sorcery as well. This ended up consuming quite a bit of time over July, as I prepped, built and primed the entire contents of both boxes, as well as finishing off the painting of a good portion of Malign Sorcery (using some airbrush and wash trickery to get things done quickly). It’s been a good palate cleanser and I’m looking forward to giving the game a try as well. Although I think some alternative narrative fantasy gaming is closer on the horizon.
Conclusion
It really felt like I crushed a lot of hobby progress over July, and I’m quite proud of the amount I got done. Whilst the momentum fell off a bit during August, I’m hoping I can rebuild it as I’m making good progress on the Massive Darkness paint and think this is looking achievable for the calendar year. AoS could throw a spanner in the works for this, as it’s been ages since I painted an army sized contingent, but I have a few ideas to get through the Nighthaunts relatively quickly so hopefully it won’t be too demanding.
