Another hit-out against Wyrm this time, with 50 levels decided so we could get more toys on the table. Wyrm took the Avengers, including Captain America (hereafter evil Cap or eCap), Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow and Hulk, and for the final three points took The Mighty Avengers team card giving three of his character’s +1 POW at the beginning of the game.
I was running my usual Superhuman team, with Captain America, Wolverine, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Daredevil, Elektra, Deadpool and Black Panther.
Set-up
We rolled randomly on the FAQ scenarios, getting Power Zones, which happened to be the mission I’d recently played against Nik so I had the upper hand knowing how it worked. The table was set-up with Zombicide tiles as a base, however I think I’ll skip these next time as they make the board way too busy. Terrain was my usual shipping containers and city stuff, with sizes agreed as follows:
Size One – Traffic cones and barrels
Size Two – Barricades and signs
Size Three – Police Box, Traffic Lights, dumpsters and the forklift
Size Four – Cars
Size Five – emergency vehicles (including the helicopter), steamroller
Size Six – Shipping containers
Deployment
Knowing I have to be on the zones early, I place Elektra and Black Panther on the closest zone, with Black Widow near the far zone. I then form a rough plan to have Deadpool and Hawkeye go and support Elektra, whilst the balance of my team will run across the board to support Black Widow (or more likely avenge her death!).
Wyrm deployed everyone in his deployment zone, which we discussed at the time a bit. He felt that if he used infiltrate with Black Widow I’d just double team her and shut her down quickly.
Round One
Wyrm wins initiative and starts by moving his Black Widow towards the far zone.
Wolverine activates and makes two moves across the board, racing towards the far zone.
Wyrm passes, I pass using Black Widow’s Strategist rule, and Wyrm then passes again.
Deadpool makes a move towards Elektra.
Thor flies towards the far zone.
Daredevil uses Grapple Sticks to move towards the far zone.
Wyrm passes again.
Hawkeye makes a move towards the zone on my side of the table.
Ironman flies towards the zone on my side of the table.
My Black Widow moves into the far power zone, easily passing the test.
eCap makes a double move to position himself near Black Widow and Thor.
Elektra moves into the closer zone, just passing the test
Hulk makes his Super Jump move, coming down next to the fire truck.
Black Panther moves towards the nearby zone, but fails to get inside.
Cap makes a double move to get into contact with Wolverine, and I consider throwing him forward, but decide to save it for when I have a target and can pop Wolverine’s Fastball Special at the same time.
With both zones under my control, I pick up five victory points for the round (two for each zone, plus one for holding both).
Round Two
Wyrm wins the initiative again and elects to pass (although thinking about it now, he probably could’ve just had me activate first).
Deadpool makes a move towards the zone on my side of the table.
Wyrm passes again, and I use by Black Widow pass in response.
Hulk, moves over the fire truck and makes a grab and throw, hurling it at Elektra, however she managed to dodge out of the way at the last minute.
Hawkeye moves towards the centre of the board.

Daredevil uses Grapple Sticks to get up on top of a shipping container.

Wolverine makes a double move using Agile towards Black Widow to support her in the zone.
Thor flies up onto the shipping container and into contact with Daredevil, attempting to grab him, but missing.
My Black Widow moves forward slightly and fires an overloaded Bullet Barrage (details) at Thor which scores a critical.
Wyrm’s Black Widow moves behind the steamroller.
Cap makes a double move back into contact with Wolverine.
eCap climbs up onto the shipping container to join Thor, grabbing Daredevil and throwing him down into the side of the steamroller.
Black Panther moves then uses his Pounce ability (4” move) to get into contact with Ironman, then makes a Savage Strike attack, overloaded for knock down, which hits, slamming Ironman to the ground.
Ironman gets up and manages to grab Black Panther, throwing him into the helicopter.
Elektra shuffles forward and throws two Shuriken (Details) at Ironman, one of which hits whilst the other misses.
I pick up a further five victory points this round.
Round Three
I win iniative this turn, and start with Black Panther. He leaps to his feet, runs at Ironman and makes a Claw Slash (details), but misses.
Wyrm starts with his Black Widow, who makes a Widow’s Bite attack on the prone Daredevil, but somehow misses. She then moves into contact and makes a Mixed Techniques attack which scores a critical hit.
Daredevil gets up and launches two Billy Clubs attacks at Black Widow, both hitting and one scoring a critical.
eCap moves then jumps off the shipping container and into contact with Daredevil. He then makes an overloaded Shield Strike (details), which scores a critical and loads on the damage with Heroic Action (details), then makes an overloaded Meteor Kick (details) which also hits.
Hawkeye moves then fires a Standard Arrow attack (details) at Ironman which hits.
Thor flies over to Cap and attempts to grab, however Cap uses Shield Block (details) to cancel it. Thor then makes a For Asgard attack (details) which hits.
Deadpool moves forward and then makes a Bang-Bang attack (details) on Ironman which hits.
Ironman makes an overloaded grab on Black Panther and throws him into a nearby barrier.
Cap throws Thor into a nearby dumpster, then moves into the zone with Black Widow.
Hulk moves over to Black Panther and makes a Hulk Smash attack (Details) which pushes Black Panther into the red zone but he somehow remains conscious. Hulk then follows up with two more Hulk Smash attacks, which is enough to incapacitate Black Panther.
My Black Widow activates and makes two Bullet Barrage attacks on the prone Thor which both hit.
Wolverine moves over to Thor and uses The Best There Is (details) overloaded as well as an overloaded Snikt attack (details) both of which hit and push Thor into the red and unconsciousness.
Elektra makes two overloaded Shuriken attacks on Hulk with the result sort of irrelevant.
I score another five victory points, and everyone who is awake stays as such.
Round Four
Wyrm wins initiative and activates Thor first, who regains consciousness and promptly runs back to Cap and Black Widow for protection. When he gets there he makes a For Asgard attack on Daredevil but is still groggy from the pounding so misses.
Daredevil makes two overloaded Billy Clubs attacks on Black Widow, with one hitting and one missing.
Hulk moves into contact with Deadpool, with Fury then activated (we realised it should’ve been start of activation but given nothing had been done to this point seemed all good) and then Hulk Smash Hulk Smash Hulk Smash, with a Gamma Strike (details) then finishing off Deadpool.
Hawkeye moves then makes an overloaded Deadshot attack (details) on Ironman which scores a critical.
Ironman flies away then fires a Repulsor Blast (details) at Daredevil but misses.
I pass with Black Widow’s strategist.
Wyrm’s Black Widow activates and makes a Mixed Techniques attack on Daredevil which hits.
Wolverine double moves into contact with eCap and makes an overloaded Snikt attack which hits, and then a basic Snikt attack which crits.
eCap makes an overloaded Shield Strike on Daredevil which crits, then makes an overloaded Meteor Kick which also goes critical and incapacitates Daredevil. He then attempts to grab Wolverine but misses.
Elektra makes two overloaded Shuriken attacks on Hulk, scoring one damage off a critical.
Black Widow makes an overloaded Bullet Barrage attack on Thor which crits, followed by a basic Bullet Barrage on Thor which misses.
Cap wanders around the zone, securing the perimeter.
A further five victory points for me, and Wyrm’s Black Widow succumbs to the beating Daredevil has dished out, becoming knocked out.
Round Five
Wyrm wins initiative and the Hulk activates, moving into the zone with Elektra. He then proceeds to use Hulk Earthquake, although Elektra and Hawkeye both pass agility. Then an overloaded Hulk Smash on Elektra which crits, another Hulk Smash on Elektra which misses, then a further Hulk Smash overloaded for push d8, which slams Elektra 8” back to the edge of the board.
After that smashing, Elektra attempts to get back into the power zone but fails, so makes an overloaded Shuriken attack on Hulk which hits for no damage.
Ironman uses his Unibeam attack (details) on Wolverine which just misses.
My Black Widow makes two overloaded Bullet Barrage attacks on Thor, however both miss.
Thor moves into contact with Wolverine and makes two For Asgard attakcs, with one hitting and the other scoring a critical hit.
Wolverine makes two overloaded Snikt attacks on Thor, the first is Shield Blocked by eCap, with the second bodyguarded onto Cap and scoring a critical hit on him.
Wyrm activates his Black Widow who moves back before making an overloaded (for additional damage) Bullet Barrage attack on Wolverine which misses. A second Bullet Barrage attack also misses.
Hawkeye attempts to get into the zone with Hulk, however fails.
eCap makes a Shield Strike on Wolverine which goes critical, pushing Wolverine into the red zone, but not enough to knock him out. He then follows up with two Meteor Kicks, with one hitting and one missing.
Cap continues to maintain the perimeter of the zone.
We each score two victory points this round, with Hulk holding one zone, and Cap the other. Wolverine, Thor, Wyrm’s Black Widow, and Ironman are all knocked out this turn!
Round Six
I win initiative to round it out, with Wolverine recovering consciousness and making four Snikt attacks on Thor, all of which are bodyguaraded by eCap.
Hulk activates making an overloaded Hulk Smash and two basic Hulk Smash attacks on Hawkeye, all of which hit.
Hawkeye attempts to enter the zone again but fails before running away whilst firing a Standard Arrow at Hulk (which hits for no damage).
Thor wakes up and makes a For Asgard attack on Wolverine which hits.
Elektra moves into the zone with Hulk and makes a Flip Kick attack on Hulk which scores a critical but the push isn’t sufficient to push him out of the zone.
Ironman wakes up and fires a Repulsor Blast at Wolverine which incapacitates him then moves to hide from any retaliatory strikes.
Black Widow makes two overloaded Bullet Barrage attacks on Thor, both of which are bodyguaraded by Cap and miss.
I score two victory points from Cap holding the zone.
Conclusion
Well, that was a strong win to me for the game, with 24 victory points to two. My team works incredibly well in this scenario, with three infiltrators allowing early control of zones and two agile characters able to quickly cover the distance from deployment zone to objective zone.
This was the first time we’d run Hulk in a game, and he is a wrecking ball. Reducing Deadpool to a splatter in one turn was brutal (sort of like the scene from Avengers where he picks Loki up and slams him around like a ragdoll), and I really needed Wolverine and Cap’s irresistible attacks to put damage on him. He isn’t very mobile though, so avoidance is a potential strategy in future.
Wyrm’s decision to try and take Daredevil out prior to moving onto control of the far zone cost him heavily, although even if he had rushed the zone, it still would’ve been an uphill battle to get back the five points I scored round one.
Another enjoyable game, which prompted several thoughts of other things to try and different strategies to consider. I’m going to start working on getting my X-men team painted in the short-term so I can run something different.
